The Tree

Following the successful selections for HuiB & Campus Jordaan, Abbink X De Haas has also been selected to design Hoofddorp's new shelter for single parent families. Homeless families can housed for a few weeks to 9 months in a protected environment. The Tree will be a compact and efficient building of flexible livingunits and social services put together to create a perfect blend of private and social needs. The balance between the child-friendly protected environment end continuing social integration is expressed both physically and symbolically by the integration of the old beech: the 150 year old beech tree stood on the site as a witness of history and as a protector for the future.
