Coolhaven island

Cool Harbour Island is a problematic urban area with enormous potential. The purpose of this study was to map this potential, within and beyond the borders of the island, and to develop new strategies for short-term as well as long-term(re)development. Two research areas were conducted simultaneously; physical and programmatic. An inventory of the existing conditions, needs and possible approaches was made by means of interviews and workshops with housing corporations, inhabitants, civil servants and institutions. The physical conditions,  qualities, challenges and possible interventions were mapped. Brought together, these two studies resulted in an urban profile and new strategies for the island for future generations to build on.
