Following the successful selections for HuiB & Campus Jordaan, Abbink X De Haas has also been selected to design Hoofddorp's new shelter for single parent families. Homeless families can be housed from a few weeks to 9 months in a protected environment. The Tree will be a compact and efficient building of flexible living units and social services put together to create a perfect blend of private and social needs. The delicate balance between the child-friendly protected environment and continuing social integration is expressed both physically and symbolically by the butterfly as the universal symbol for change, renewal, the temporal and the soul.
