The Tree almost fully grown

12.03.2013

The Tree has reached it's highest point which called for an intimate celebration. Despite bad weather conditions, the building process is going according to plan.  The prefab bathrooms are almost in place. Work will start on the interior very soon. The exterior has seen the first slates placed and in a short while the leafy pattern of the green, grey and silver slates on the facade will be visible.

The Tree is Hoofddorp’s new shelter for single parent families. Homeless families can be housed for up to 9 months in a caring and protected environment. The Tree is a compact and efficient building comprising flexible living quarters and 400m2 of supporting functions.

Special attention is given to the aspects of privacy, safety, self-sufficiency and social interaction.

The Tree is focused on the 150 year old red beech tree which stands on the site as a witness of history and as a protector for the future.
